Most parents were busy at the greenhouse that afternoon (growing good things in more ways than one). The few who came heard from Keri Blacker, a regional principal with FNESC who has walked alongside First Nations schools for 16 years. She shared one idea that stuck with all of us: this school assessment isn’t about finding faults. It’s about understanding where our school is today so our children can grow tomorrow.
We also got an early look at a draft mission statement. It speaks to raising our children as whole beings, nurturing minds, bodies, spirits and hearts, with our language and culture woven through their learning. Your voice is needed to shape it.
