We Are Stronger Together

Long before there were maps with lines on them, our ancestors travelled these waters to visit, trade, feast, and stand beside our neighbours. The inlets and mountains between us were never walls. They were the paths that carried our families, our stories, and our responsibilities to one another.

Today we’re proud to share a moment that honours that history and carries it forward.

The leadership of ’Wuìk̓inux̌v Nation, Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation, and Nuxalk Nation have signed a Declaration of Unity, a shared commitment to work together for the longevity, prosperity, sovereignty, and well-being of our Nations and the generations still to come.

Guided by the teachings of our ancestors and our role as stewards of our territories, the three Nations have committed to:

-Strengthening our relationships with one another
-Protecting our lands, waters, cultures, and traditions
-Supporting each other’s governance and community wellness
-Standing in solidarity for the rights, voices, and self-determination of our peoples

Each Nation’s sovereignty is honoured. And together, we are making sure that our shared values and traditional knowledge continue to thrive.

When you look at the map on the declaration, you can see our three territories sitting side by side, touching, just as they always have. What this declaration says out loud is something our Old People already knew: we are stronger together.

To all ’Wuìk̓inux̌v Nation, near and far, this belongs to you, and to your children and grandchildren.

A ceremony with our Hereditary leadership will be arranged to formally place this declaration in our band office. More details will be shared once a date is set.

Ǧiànakaci to the leadership of all three Nations for coming together in a good way.
